It works pretty well with 8.1. I use 8.1 x64 with ClassicShell to get rid of all the Metro stuff and to get a workin Start menu. (IMHO Metro is fine on a mobile but an my 3 screen dev machine it is more then ugly.)
If you use it that way it will not be a big step from XP / 7, except that it is faster and more robust. (And Metro is still there, if you found a need of it)
I have no problems till now. It will need a bit of time to be comfortable around all the ugly Metro apps MS puts on the default installation, but it's not that tricky.

I recommend to figure how to install / create user without MS account. I see no use to let MS new every movement I do.
Office 2k3 also is usable without integration of the MS Account spying. If you realy need to cennect it is possible to connect on demand.


Win 7 us much slower, in special in start up.

Win 10 needs at least two SP's to be in the ring, as every MS OS. :)
