>>While I love Guinness, I can't stand corned beef.
I think you have to be from NY or Boston to like corned beef. They're the only places where you can get a decent rendition of it.
To taste the absolute worst corned beef ever concocted, come to the Hamilton Ancient Order of Hibernians on St Patrick's day.
The Guinness on tap is pretty good - not the best, but OK- but the corned beef... ach!!!
So we know how the Irish in Hamilton set priorities.
Outside of my late wife's corned beef.. which was amazing..the Carnegie Deli on 7th Ave in NYC (setting for Woody Allen's Broadway Danny Rose) serves the best corned beef I've ever had.
I had a sandwich there with a Jewish friend who told a story about the Midwesterners who had heard about the Carnegie deli's legendary corned beef and had to give it a try.
One of them ordered a corned beef sandwich on white bread with lettuce, tomato, mayonnaise, a slice of American cheese and a glass of milk and said:
"I love Jewish food."
Anyone who does not go overboard- deserves to.
