You need to distinguish between C# versions and VS versions.

As Craig says C# had a lot of features added between v3.5 which was released in 2007 and v4.5.1(IFRC, dynamic typing and async functions for example) but that doesn't mean code examples from earlier versions won't compile using newer versions - and, IAC, VS allows you to target any installed older version of the .NET framework.

The IDE for VS also changed during this period so if the book has screen shots they will probably differ from the current IDE - but not to an extent that makes them unusable.

Out of curiosity, what is the book ?
Why not use one of the many online tutorials (such as the Microsoft Virtual Academy - although it's a bit 'chatty') ?
