It's just an opinion/perspective, I obviously can't prove it.

I always felt that Trump knew where Obama was born, but forced the issue so that Obama would finally produce the birth certificate. I think Trump wanted to nation to "get beyond" the entire birther issue and he probably felt he could force the Obama camp to finally produce the long form.
