In journalism 101 we learned that "news" was- simply defined- "an important change in the status quo."
Here in beautiful downtown Hamilton, NJ an editor might think that some kids having a good time at the senior prom or junior going 3 for 4 in a little league game are newsworthy events.

An editor of the NYT might have other standards.

The key is .. what is "important" to that editor?

I just don't think that what Eric Holder said about something that he had previously said is important. If I had seen that story, I would have passed it up.

I tend to think that events are more important than what people say about them.
What people say about what people say about events ... well you get my gist...
