Noami, The problem with such machines usually is not realy the hardware. 5 years of windows update heavily fragments the files of an windows installation and therefore slowing down your machine. Sometimes it helps to defragment the machine with a decent defragmenter (not the build in one, that one is horrible) such as perfectdisk.

Much better is to build in a SSD. Recently I took a 10 years old dual core machine with only 2 GB of mem with Vista which was so slow it would take forever to start. I just put a Samsung 850 EVO of a $100 in there and the machine came to life again. It is not the fasted but certainly workable. Programs start very quickly again. If such an option is not available, a clean install might help. It certainly will get much faster.

According to the information I got, is that if you can run Windows Vista on a PC, you can also run Windows 10. So this will be interesting to see whether that would work.
