What if each of these cops put in a few thousand days of service before the bad outcome- and that's all some people can see.

I'm not justifying killing people and if it's deliberate then charges should be laid- but also I agree with John Wooden that "If you're not making mistakes, then you're not doing anything." The difference is that cops and others are in a position where a mistake can mean somebody's life.
