As stated previously, you probably want to avoid bitmap fonts as they don't always behave predictably when the DPI setting is different from what you have when you designed the screen.

The unfortunate bit about fonts is that what fonts are installed does tend to vary. The following page lists some of the fonts commonly found in various versions of Windows:.

Given the info above, perhaps selecting Lucida Console might be a decent choice (though no guarantee that it would be installed).

You can look up various surveys on what monospace fonts work well for programming.

Sometimes you can utilize a font that is found in the application's working folder without having to install the font.
