I sometimes chuckle when I think how "conservatives" have let themselves be cornered into to a position against one of the most conservative issues of our time - preserving the environment - as have the liberals been snookered into the opposition position.
My daughter-in-law - a flaming liberal - is the bane of developers in Mercer county and has successfully blocked tens of millions of dollars worth of construction and she bridles when I tell her that nothing could be more conservative than refusing to let people make an honest living by building homes for other people just because you like things as they are.
I also ask my right-wing builder friends how it feels when other people's refusal to budge from the status quo prevents you from earning a living.
Anyone who does not go overboard- deserves to.
