>>I installed Google Chrome yesterday. Here was another problem - I picked up the first link that came in the search and it somehow turned out to be a rouge link offering bunch of garbage in addition to Chrome. I think I get out of it rather quickly and I hope it didn't infect my computer, but it's a reminder again that you have to be very careful and don't trust a first link for software unless it's the software's own website.

>Yup. Had that happen on several occasions when co-worker was trying to locate and install some software. Often resulted in computer getting a boatload of junk software, some of which were a real pain to remove -- basically wasting the rest of my day on trying to rid the PC of the junk software. On a few occasion I had no other choice but to roll back to a previous state using a harddisk image (I image the harddisks of each of the computers once a month). And on each occasion, I ended up getting lectured about wasting company time due to my carelessness and warned to be more careful when going online.
I don't know if I can be sure I got rid of all the garbage :(
Say, today when I opened that laptop which I left with lots of applications still running I found that it already re-started after downloading Windows Update. I tried opening my main applications and found that Outlook would not load (the Loading Profile was getting nowhere). I was able to solve that problem using solution from
http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/office/forum/office_2013_release-outlook/outlook-2013-is-stuck-at-the-loading-profile. I haven't opened VS yet today, I'm trying to set my environment.
If it's not broken, fix it until it is.
