Your initial question can only produce guesswork. All meaningfull ideas are on the table, except something very rare.

In general: Something with your icon is strange. But you know that, probably.

If you like to have an closer answer, you need to force the costumer to check. Only this gives more information. I only suggest questions.

The desktop is a special view of the explorer. (That's why, if the explorer dies the desktop goes blank) So my idea to use the explorer is to check different resolutions and also check the plain exe. It's more easy to change explorers settings then desktops (On my comp [CTRL]+MouseWheel does this). But the result is normaly the same.
