Just having one code generator for the foreplay sections, another one for whatever they use for screens, and then we could live with the actual data crunching somehow. Though I guess Cobol nowadays is not even close to what I remember from 1986-89 on PDP/VAX, but still, I'd surely write something to replace all that verbosity.
Because I know a guy who did it, so I know it can be done and I guess I could do it better.
