http://adage.com/article/ken-wheaton/ad-blocking-parasite/300342/Ads have already destroyed... let's see, pretty much every medium except perhaps theatre and poetry evenings. Everything else is gone. Radio is dead, TV is dead, newspapers probably are but nobody dares tell them, and now one of mobile providers boasted that they've "successfully broadcast the first ad via SMS". If my provider does that, I'm sending them a bill. In case they didn't know, I can professionally read/watch/listen to ads at a modest fee of 50€/hr. And I will take them to heart, i.e. memorize the morons who think I'd be buying from someone who wastes their customers' money like that.
The internet is a beast of a different color, and I think this is where the whole "you can't make money on the web unless it's by selling ad space" scheme is slowly dying without really killing its host. Other modes will be found.
