>>From what I've seen Rugby is even wackier.
Surprisingly few serious injuries in recent years. The referee is a dictator who must be shown respect and is obliged to punish observed behavior that does not sit with the spirit of Rugby. Including dangerous play. Players can be sin binned for minutes, for the rest of the game, for a month or three, for the rest of the season or for all time for the worst transgressors. Tends to have a calming effect.
"... They ne'er cared for us
yet: suffer us to famish, and their store-houses
crammed with grain; make edicts for usury, to
support usurers; repeal daily any wholesome act
established against the rich, and provide more
piercing statutes daily, to chain up and restrain
the poor. If the wars eat us not up, they will; and
there's all the love they bear us."
-- Shakespeare: Coriolanus, Act 1, scene 1
