There are services to get the geolocation from the public WAN IP, but they are not as precise as GPS.
As there are quite a few scenarios how the machine is connected to the interbet physically and logically, probaly a call to a sevice like wahtismyip or query google with that phrase in webbrowser is better than to query the router via routines maintained by you.
Pitfalls: TOR, VPN and RDS.
