>I have tested several applications, and they all behave like VFP. Try with IE or Excel, also there you won't see the mapped drives when you run them as administrator. So I assume Craig is right, the mapped drives are tied to the user, and thus different for the administrator than the current user.

On my Windows 10 enterprise try:
excel 2010 x64 Administrator mode -> mapped drive works
various x86 applications Administrator mode -> mapped drive works

Craig is right in describing what is happening, but what is happening is wrong.
