Certainly. They are also meant to be helpful by easing quick code comprehension - not an irritation every maintainance worker has to grok and possibly phone the commentary author about, thereby breaking another chain of thought ;-))

I am more in Kevins camp here. Refactorng just for the sake of it is probably worse then premature optimization, but there ARE indications that the code has areas which are not really in line with best practices. And if refactoring muscles are enhanced instead of maintainance cruft, not bad.

and pls no muscles vs. brain jokes ;-)
