Suggested books - C # and SQL server
Environment versions

Hi all,
Have been asked by a friend if I could do some *minor* changes on an in house app where they are using SQL server and "some sort" of code written in C # to maintain it. He says there are no big changes needed right now but he wants to line up someone for the future as his current programmer has moved.
Any suggestions on C # books ( I don't know even C++ so I am starting from scratch). Also, I really don't know much about SQL server as all my apps have used the VFP native tables (although at least the SQL query/insert/update etc language is not daunting).
So any suggestions on either of the two? I know it is highly subjective but a few good reco's might get me started.
Thanks,
Albert
