>>We don't do "left leanings" anywhere in casa KG :)

They say if you're not liberal in your youth you have no heart and if you're not conservative in your dotage you have no brain. So brace yourself. ;-)

Seriously though- "conservative" and "liberal" have completely different meanings in the modern US political context. After the Civil War most African Americans considered themselves Republican but by 1964 when the Civil Rights Act was opposed by Republicans, the opposite was true. Also FWIW, 88% of African Americans voted for Kerry in 2004 but only 28% called themselves liberal. Certainly opposing discrimination on the basis of race, gender, creed or origin (or bank balance?) would be considered moderate rather than liberal in most of the free world- though the current mass arrival of refugees/migrants in Europe may change some of that.

BTW- not sure whether you kept up with the Rugby World Cup but the final was watched by a global audience of 120 million people yesterday despite time zones (3AM start for most of Australia.) Gotta say, the Australian Captain (Moore) gave a very generous speech at the end of the game. Gracious +++ and a very positive example for sportspeople all over the world including in the USA.
"... They ne'er cared for us
yet: suffer us to famish, and their store-houses
crammed with grain; make edicts for usury, to
support usurers; repeal daily any wholesome act
established against the rich, and provide more
piercing statutes daily, to chain up and restrain
the poor. If the wars eat us not up, they will; and
there's all the love they bear us.
"
