...in the midst of the Depression, President Franklin D. Roosevelt persuaded Congress to enact Social Security. Even then, some critics denounced it as un-American. But today, most Americans, even conservatives, believe that Social Security is a good idea. What had once seemed radical has become common sense.

The problem here is that the government does not trust individuals to invest in their own retirement. If I had been able to invest that money on my own, I would have a lot more if it than I will ever be able to collect on Social Security.

If you give the government a dollar, all you ever see is about 50 cents of value for that dollar since you have to pay for the huge administrative bureaucracy.

Plus, the government has already proven that it cannot be trusted with the money it took from us to pay for our Social Security during retirement. The lockbox is empty. They have already stolen it all.
