>>>2. When I was browsing LifeJournal, I got a popup saying my system is infected and I need to call such and such number. I closed that page right away (e.g. the page with that popup), but I am concerned as my husband also got similar popup once in the past and we closed the browser then as well.

>>I'm not sure about why you're not hearing sound. Make sure the sound volume for the chrome app is turned up. The volume mixer in Windows 7 has settings for each application.
>>As for popups and ads in chrome - ha well that is another problem for sure. In addition to the admuncher app..I use these extensions:
>>adblock
>>Ghostery
>>adblock plus
>>adguard bocker
>>privacy badger
>>https everywhere
>>
>>If I just go to cnn.com - all these things together block over 80 things. I never see any ads anywhere. It's a shame that we have to go to so much trouble to avoid these things - but once you have it setup right it makes surfing the net a lot better experience.

Not sure what you did to bock the ads in skype - did you edit the config.xml file??

Control Panel -> Internet Options -> Security -> Restricted Sites -> Sites -> add g.msn.com and apps.skype.com

Also, to remove the ad placeholder, go to your
C:\users\youruser\AppData\Roaming\Skype\yourskypeuser\config.xml

and find the line AdvertPlaceholder 1 /AdvertPlaceholder

and remove the line completely

THEN be SURE to make the config.xml file READ-ONLY!!!

..if that does not work... try instead of DELETING the AdvertPlaceholder line, change its value, setting it to 0

I attached an image of how I got ad-muncher setup ..be sure to goto the 'update' tab there and get the latest updates too.
