>I'd heard that there's a correlation between energy input vs output that seems to affect weight. ;-) "Size of the in hole versus the out hole" is one of the charming descriptions I saw on Facebook recently. Apparently you can gobble lard by the spoonful and not gain weight if you're exercising or undergoing a teenage growth spurt or otherwise burning more calories than you're putting into the in hole. ;-)

Balancing it on sugar on the other side. It's been more than 20 years since I put any of it into a coffee; soda or other zuckerwasser - plan to try again in 2018; cakes - yes, fruit butter cream and pastry, very little sugar. Honey at times, pekmez (differs from jam by achieving density by long slow cooking, not adding pectin) on pancakes or just a coffeespoonfull (about 2/3 of teaspoon).

Exercise, actually not too much. Or not often enough. In the season, there's the garden, so I spend, on the average, three afternoons a week pushing the mower, or the trimmer hanging on me, or just milling around, carrying crates etc...

On yet another side, I somehow don't believe the whole callory counting. It assumes that human metabolism uses 100% of the energy available in the food, i.e. measures how much energy is released when it burns. Yeah they may be compensating for that, but their numbers are still suspect, and they keep changing the standards (1600 Kcal used to be a miner's intake in the old books - found that in some reprints when my wife was studying, now it's 2000 Kcal for office work). And mind you, my wife specialized in nutritional hygiene. What we're eating is way off the course drawn in her books, and we're healthier than ever. Last week I had my second brufen (ibuprofen) this year, and that's my total consumption, plan fulfilled for this year. Not even aspirin.
