Well, was just as matter of example to make clear the point on which make the control, but not, the users here are not what one expects :D
Back to the problem, showing an error (not this one:) is up to the situation, because if this error must not let to continue because generates invalid data, then may be an error message is what is needed, just catching this, logging it, and showing another message to the user.
Nice thing about this cases is that there are many implementations possible :)
