If you Google [mcafee exclude folder real time scanning] there are some useful-looking hits. It looks like, depending on your exact version, you may need to ADD a "trusted folder" rather than exclude one from real-time scanning.

Windows 10 includes Windows Defender antivirus (by Microsoft). You could consider completely removing McAfee and reverting back to that.

I tend to be very harsh on AV programs. You pay good money for them and they're supposed to make your life easier. If they cause problems they're making your life more difficult. Far too often clients have had to pay me money to help them get rid of AV problems caused by products they paid for.

Antivirus is inherently evil.
