>Today my adult kids are at home, for Thanksgiving holidays. And they both are in their rooms and I am pretty sure that wireless works for them (or they would kick me out of the house :)). But I cannot connect to the wireless router. I get frequent messages that the signal is weak and it connect and then disconnects. And since my home office is very close to the router I connected my notebook with the router using a CAT 5 cable. Hence I can read and write here.

If you're physically close to the wireless router, you should have a good signal. Even if others are streaming video etc. you should still have a strong signal; in that case the connection might be a little slower.

Things like microwave ovens (which might see a lot of use on US Thanksgiving) can cause WiFi interference. You might be able to see if your connection is better when any such is not running.

To test your device, get one of your children to bring their functioning device to the location of your computer, and see if they still have a good connection. If they do, but you don't, your computer may be suspect.
