...I used API_AppRun (i.e. process.vcx) from the late Ed Rauh - downloaded from UT. It's a wrapper around ShellExecute, and one of the parameters allows you to run hidden, and there are two ways to run - .LaunchApp() and .LaunchAppAndWait() - so yep, I knew when it finished, and there was no CMD window visible.
