>You misread what Dorris wrote. She mentioned 1000-1200 sq. ft. and said they used to sell "in the mid-70's to mid-90's (thousand dollars)."

>LOL!!!! Obviously. I thought that she meant that you could buy homes during the time period from 1975 - 1995 for $1000. ROFL!!!

My folks stayed in theirs for essentially the rest of their lives. (My mom actually died in the house. My dad was in a care facility for a few months because his needs were too much to handle at home. In particular, after my mom got sick, his Parkinson's seemed to accelerate a lot--mostly, we think, because Mom had been covering for him a lot).)

I'm trying to remember the numbers for our first house. We bought in 1979 and I know it was under $100K for a 3-story, 5-bedroom house (somewhat larger than my parents' house, despite the apparent similarity). I can't remember how much land, but a nice (though somewhat inaccessible) back yard. We sold 12 years later for about 2.5x what we paid. Since we built this house, I don't have a firm number to assign to it.
