I late eighties I was an admin (in then-DEC-speak, system manager) on a VAX, with 2MB RAM (soon expanded to whopping 4), which served about 20 terminals in a 1km radius. Had three 340MB disks, size of today's microwave each. And a backup tape drive with its own Motorola 68000 processor. Took me about six years to have a machine with so much RAM, and three more to have that much disk space.
