Originally it was invented by 3 boffins at Organon in Walter's homeland of the Netherlands, then Organon was bought by Shering-Plough in California, then the drug was humanized by Merck, and then Schering-Plough was bought by (merged into) Merck with headquarters in New Jersey. There were clinical trials done in Israel, but in other places too.
