In fairness, Yugoslavia as you knew it was an artificial construction after those warmongering European nations ended one of their episodes. And "Balkanization" does seem to be a predictable trend in the Balkans. Not sure you can blame UN/NATO any more for the most recent dissolution than you could blame them for the collapse of the Ottoman Empire last time, or the Byzantine defeat or any other Balkan upheaval as far back as Neolithic times according to archaeological evidence. "The devil made us do it" isn't enough. Sorry.
"... They ne'er cared for us
yet: suffer us to famish, and their store-houses
crammed with grain; make edicts for usury, to
support usurers; repeal daily any wholesome act
established against the rich, and provide more
piercing statutes daily, to chain up and restrain
the poor. If the wars eat us not up, they will; and
there's all the love they bear us."
-- Shakespeare: Coriolanus, Act 1, scene 1
