I did something of the kind in 1999. The case in point had containers of somewhat limited height (it was a questionnaire, 1 container - 1 question) and I actually had three levels of containers. The outermost was the reference frame; the middle was moved up/down in it (with .top going negative as needed) and it contained the question containers. There was some kind of scrollbar, but the main way of moving around was to ensure that the container holding the currently active control would be completely visible. IOW, whenever a container would get the focus, the middle container's .top would be adjusted.
