Generally I agree. But in this particular case I just need this feature for my own, 'in-house' program. Since I am comfortable using Modi File from IDE it won't be a problem for me in my .EXE program. Thank you.

>Chiming in late: think more about your users and their capabilities in this. Modi File will work, but unless the user is used to the vfp IDE I'd argue against it. Naomi with Shellexec has an angle that the "typical" exe for some types according to the registry is used or you could find an editor and give the file name as a parameter. If editing is only rudimentary, filetostr, editbox, strtofile gives you more control to check the changes programmatically, for instance in JSON or INI files
