I conducted some tests tonight with Google Chrome.
The version I tested with was Version 47.0.2526.111 m. It went ok. I heard the sound.
Then, an upgrade was requested. The new version is Version 48.0.2564.82 m.
On that one, I heard the sound as well.
If you have one of those two versions, I would assume the browser version is ok. There seems to be an external factor causing conflict here.

Unless you would have something locally interecepting the audio files being sent towards that browser.
