Java doesn't come into play here. It's JavaScript. Here's the difference: Java is to JavaScript as Ham is to Hamburger.

I had played with html/css/javascript in the past, but nothing seriously so I had a steep learning curve. With MVC, you don't write much HTML. You rely on the framework to do a lot of that work, but you will need to know how to read HTML when debugging in the browser. Throw questions here when you get stuck on something.
