I'll echo what the others have said. Maybe things have changed recently, but our experience is that accessing DBFs over a WAN is a bad idea. You are having performance problems now, but you'll probably also see data corruption at some point. I am no network expert, but it has become obvious that WAN != LAN, regardless of how fast it is. The underlying network architecture is not what VFP expects. You'll likely see the same issues with other tools that work directly with data files like Access. This frustrates IT folks that have invested a lot in their high-speed network, but we tell them it will inevitably lead to problems and we cannot support it. If they want remote access, they have to use Terminal Server/Remote Desktop or a similar tool. SQL Server and other database servers should work fine over a WAN, but direct access to data files is where the problem is.
