For me the proof of "disappeared from the disc" is done via mounting on linux and searching the sectors for known byte patterns: being unable to see in windows is no proof it vanished from disc sectors (for me). This might take some time, but OTOH is conclusive: if known patterns are NOT on the disk, you can stop looking for ways windows might have hidden them ;-))
