I did test on my own tables and so far no problem. As far as the application, the databases are used by my (VFP9) application and it works too. Actually this is how I tested the results after the change, via the VFP 9 application. My app accesses and updates the SQL server data via Cursor Adapter which is has the same type (memo) for either Text or Varchar(max).
