Thanks Viv. The need may be evaporating as its a one off migration rather than on going integration and they may handle it manually but I'll take a look at that for the future.

Weirdly I've never had to extract data from Excel before in SSIS . Its usually XML or flat file or other sort of database etc. I had no idea Excel is such a PITA but eventually decided to follow Kevins recommendation and save it all as flat files.
