>>>Question...why do you suppose Bush is still popular with the military, and yet Obama has a horrible image problem with the military?
>>
>>I generally (no pun) agree with the notion that the military- especially the brass- liked W more than O.
>>Why?
>>Hard to divine someone else's motives - but I'll hazard some guesses.
>>First is money. Bush spent hundreds of billions more on the military than O has.
>>If you ask a general if he needs more money- or more of anything for that matter- and he says "No", he didn't hear the question, so I assume that's a big reason.
>>
>>Another reason, based on some conversations I've had with some active duty guys, is all this gender stuff.
>>Who in his right mind would want serve in combat with women?
>>It's nuts.
>>The gay stuff is almost as bad.
>>The generals who have said anything about it have wound up in hot water.
>>
>>So that's my take.
>>
>>Who was a better commander-in-chief in my mind?
>>That's easy, Obama was.
>>Any commander who leads his troops into the kind of wars that Bush did is an abysmal failure, period.

>Not sure of your military background/status and, of course, you are entitled to your opinion. I am a decorated combat veteran and I disagree 100% with your statement. The main reasons I disagree are:
>1. The Obama penchant for micro-managing combat and issuing overly restrictive rules of engagement
>2. Obama's repeated announcing withdrawal dates that are not tied to the actual situation on the ground nor achievement of success.
>3. Obama's policy of "sabre rattling" i.e. Syria Red Line and then backing down when his bluff is called.

Ken,
I'm a combat vet as well- 50% disability.
Probably a different zone from yours - I'm a bit senior to you- and just about everyone in the world.
I didn't say that Obama was a good leader. He's pretty weak in fact. My reasons for saying that are probably different from yours but that's another story.
That wasn't the question, however.
Kevin compared him to Bush.
By any count Bush's leadership was disastrous in every respect.
Anyone who does not go overboard- deserves to.
