While practicing golf shots this weekend at an open field near here, I ran into a geeky hobbyist who was flying a drone that he had made.
He graciously gave me a nice demo .
This little gadget is amazing.
It's about 12"X12" wide and 4" deep.
4 electric motors - one at each corner - have props that spin horizontally.
In this hobbyist version, they run off a battery with a life of about 8 minutes , depending on what it's doing.
The life is longer if it just hovers.
It can soar above a thousand feet and go up to 90MPH at level flight.
It flits around like a hummingbird.
He had it hovering a few feet from us and then, in a flash, it flitted a few hundred yards away and hovered there.

Who knows?
Maybe we'll solve the problem of our decaying roads and bridges by making them obsolete with gadgets like this.
