If it's OK to encrypt an entire drive (e.g. USB), one option might be BitLocker To Go.
Probably the most common use is to store the credentials on the computer that applied BitLocker to the USB device, so that when the USB is connected to that computer it is automatically unlocked. But, that option can be turned off so a key is required.
There are other products that do similar things and can encrypt just folders instead of entire drives e.g. TrueCrypt
