>The US is far more dangerous than Europe...
That remains alas true. My daughter will be visiting the US next summer. Once you start checking the real stats about the risk of a violent death, or any sort of physical violence, France is still a very, very low risk proposition, even Paris itself. And I'd certainly prefer her to stay at home. But of course she won't.
Of course, when it comes to violence, there is the question of "perception of risk". No doubt that it has change quite a bit here. The feeling of comfort that you could feel in Paris, whatever the hour - even at 2.AM - whatever the "arrondissement" is currently not the one we had. It could come back. IMHO it will but I would not set any date for the this alas.
That does not make Paris a risky proposition but, sure, no need to get out of one's comfort zone when on holiday. Would make very little sense. But one should not mix up feelings with hard i-e statistical facts. Hard facts have not changed so much despite the tragic events we have been through.
Cheers
Daniel
