I'm not to much into german designed cars. I know most of them from inside (programing industrial robots 20 years ago) I see no point in putting my money into them.
You have the SuperB above the Octavia. The Octavia is a kind of a Golf, at least platform wise.
OTOH I have seen a lot of small cars on the US west coast last year. And I wouldn't call it taste. The whole system there is made this way. It makes sense after a while. And I was very have to have rent a car in appropiate size. :)
