Thanks Al - the requirement is realllly simple - no indexes used, either. Every now and then appending a record to the dbf, and every now and then updating one of three fields. It's just that as soon as vfp opens the dbf, it turns it into a vfp dbf. I will give that SET CPDIALOG OFF a try as soon as I get a chance, and advise.
