I can evaluate the value, and then use keyboard leftarrow in lostfocus to bring focus back, but I am sure that isn't the optimum way. Using setfocus in the lostfocus doesn't work.. Setfocus in the whole darned grid doesn't seem to work.

That's what the VALID event is made for. Return .F. will stop the object from losing focus.
