The trick for me, John, was to:
-have lovely memories of my childhood sweetheart who was my beloved wife
-have wonderful children and grandchildren
- have strong Irish genes
- don't take life too seriously
- love your chosen profession
- ask God to send me someone who turned out to be a gorgeous, smart, witty, stylish Italian-American girlfriend who is a fellow painter, loves good music, French food and wine, and good literature
That sounds like a tall order and it is (she's 5'9) but sure enough, she appeared.
