If you think of life as a ladder, I started at least halfway up, thanks to the family I come from. People who started lower down may have climbed a lot farther, yet not gotten up as high as I have.

Yes, thanks to your father's demons, you missed out on some of the advantages I started with. I think you also worked harder (had to work harder) than I did.

That said, you still started higher on the ladder than some other people.
