Haven't read all this thread, but it might be worth running your 6 app through the fancy new Coverage Profiler to see if you can identify bottlenecks. I have an app mostly done in 3 that I converted with 6 Beta, and there was a BIG performance hit, something to do with grids and/or views/tables...I put off further work until my VS6 comes in, but then I'll attack it with Profiler.
Also, I have another app with less GUI and more processing that is definitely faster in 6 Beta than 5.0a...so each app may be a little different, and some may require some modifications to get the performance up...
