Can't speak to specifics, but according to family members who were around at the time he was the one who could have helped ease the pain, and didn't.
Some recalled that family members, vets of WWI, marched to Washington to get their pensions and Hoover ordered troops to clear the assembly.
So, to this scion of a bunch of Queens New Deal Democrats, Hoover was a cuss word.
