The story is too long, this is just the most interesting episode.

But that's in the US. Here, curiously enough, it's becoming the same, even though there's several orders of magnitude less money involved. My mother-in-law got prescribed something by a neurologist to fend off the disorientation and vertigo. Among the side effects, the small print on the drug mentions possible disorientation and vertigo. The doctor is visiting this (unregistered, private) nursing home as his side gig, out of the system and most probably off the books. The drug's cost wasn't trivial, somewhere around 50€/month. And yeah, my wife (the retired MD) googled it out, and it's a new thing, approved just a couple of years before.
